Meet Your 2009-2010 School Board Members
Tom Eschweiler
Tom Eschweiler, chairman of the ODCS school board, has been a member of the ODCS board since 2006. His has been married to wife Charis for 20 years. Tom and Charis have three children who attend ODCS: Zack, a senior; Nick, an freshman and Olivia, a 6th grader. The Eschweilers reside in Elyria and attend Church of the Open Door. Tom is a patent attorney and has his own law firm in Cleveland. The firm focuses on various areas of technology including semiconductor physics and processing, medical technology, software, and wireless and wireline communications. His clientele is international and provides him the opportunity to work with businesses in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. The Eschweilers enjoy exercise, travel, reading, and good food. The family also enjoys board games, cards, biking, and snowboarding. “My vision for ODCS is for the school to be a challenging yet nurturing environment in which young men and women are developed with the necessary intellectual tools and character to be Godly men and women who exhibit excellence in whatever vocation they choose.”
Brian Gevry
Brian Gevry joined the board during the fall of 2007. He has been married to Kendra for 21 years. Brian and Kendra have two children who attend ODCS: Lindsey, a sophomore and Alec, a 5th grader. Taylor, their oldest graduated from ODCS in June 09 & is attending Wheaton College this year. The Gevrys reside in North Ridgeville. Brian and Kendra are members of the North Olmsted Evangelical Friends Church. Brian is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Chief Investment Officer of Boyd Watterson Asset Management, LLC, a nationally recognized investment advisory firm based in Cleveland. He has a master’s degree in business administration from Case Western Reserve University. Brian loves to spend time working outdoors, especially on his family property in Vermont, from where he originally comes. He also likes tinkering with his collection of farm tractors and related equipment, and attends tractor shows when he is able.
Jon Phillips
Jon Phillips served as an ODCS board member from 2002-03 and returned in 2006. Jon has been married to his wife Wendi for 20 years. They have two children who attend ODCS: Preston, a sophomore; and Mallory, a 7th grader, both of whom have attended ODCS since kindergarten. Wendi serves on the staff at the school as a library aide. Jon, originally from northwestern Pennsylvania, and Wendi, originally from western Ohio, met at Taylor University, a Christian university located in Indiana. The Phillips' reside in Elyria. Jon is a Process Architect with National City Corp. Both he and Wendi enjoy traveling, dining out, and spending time with family and friends. Preston and Mallory keep them busy with sports, ballet/jazz, and schoolwork. “ODCS has played a significant role in our family’s life,” says Jon. “The Christ-based education upon which ODCS’ past, present, and future is founded has impacted our children and has led to both of them accepting Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. The education that has been provided also has exceeded our expectations. We are so thankful for the staff and administration and for the personal interest they show our children.”
Susan Schrodt
Susan Schrodt has been a member of the ODCS board since 2006. Susan has been married to her husband Daniel, president of Jiffy of the Americas, for over 20 years. They have two children who attend ODCS: Danielle, a freshman; and Jessica, a 6th grader. The Schrodts reside in LaGrange. Susan is an avid horse lover who has owned and shown horses, mostly Morgans, for almost 30 years. She attends Church of the Open Door and enjoys studying the Bible with other women. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with over 20 years of experience in public accounting; she also specializes in serving nonprofit organizations. With this background, Susan contributes to the financial and operational aspects of the school and serves on the Finance and Executive Committees. “My desire is to do God’s will here at ODCS for His glory and for the furtherance of Christian education.”
Scott Giesbrecht
Scott joined the board in the Fall of 2008. Scott and his wife Mona met in the halls of ODCS in Junior High, dated throughout High School, and have been married for 12 years. Three of their five children currently attend ODCS: Hannah is in 5th grade; Todd is in 3rd grade; Hailey is in 1st grade. The Giesbrechts reside in Oberlin and attend church at Grace Church of North Olmsted, where Scott serves as a deacon. Since graduating from Malone College in 1998, Scott has been working with Green Circle Growers where his responsibilities include sales, marketing, and distribution. Scott enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and golfing. One of his favorite verses is Romans 12:2: “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Susan Elder
Susan Elder was elected to the school board in February 2008. She and her husband Rich, an airline pilot and officer in the Air Force Reserves, have been married for 23 years. They have two children: Patrick, who attended ODCS since first grade and just graduated June 09, and Catie a sophomore who started at ODCS in the Pre-school. The Elders reside in Avon and attend Church of the Open Door. Susan is a graduate of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana with a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Public and Corporate Communication, with a double major in Journalism and a minor in Business. Susan serves as the Chief Marketing Officer for the American Red Cross of Greater where she is responsible for branding, marketing, communications, and the organization's Health & Safety Services business, including its Nurse Assistant Training Program. Recently, she was honored by the Sales and Marketing Executives of Cleveland with its Distinguished Sales and Marketing Executive Award. Susan enjoys travel and participated in her daughter's French Class trip to France and Italy in the fall of 2008. She loves basketball and has been an avid fan and supporter of the ODCS basketball team during the four years her son played. She has been a volunteer at ODCS in different capacities during the past 12 years, including launching the school publication, The Patriot Voice, and serving as its editor for the past three years. "Deuteronomy 6:7 commands parents to teach Godly principles to their children 'when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.' Simply stated, we are constantly and consistently to train our children in what is right, wherever we are and in whatever we are doing. In other words," says Susan, "every Christian family should have the conviction of giving their children a Christian education."
