Open Door Christian Preschool Mission Statement:

Our mission is to serve families of preschoolers by partnering with them in the preparation of their child(ren) for their future school experiences. This is accomplished by offering a safe, nurturing, Christ-centered environment that provides play-based experiences that enhance the development of the whole child. This is accomplished by addressing the following areas – Social, Physical, Intellectual, Creative, Emotional and Spiritual.

Open Door Christian Schools’ (ODCS) preschool programs provide hands-on, developmentally appropriate, play-based environments. Children are introduced to letters, shapes, colors, and numbers through the use of learning centers. A time of prayer and biblical instruction is included in each day’s schedule as well as time for music class and creative movement. Class ratios are in accordance with state licensing mandates.

We offer a variety of half-day or full-day programs for children from three to five years old, as well as an Extended Care program. The half-day session (8-11am) includes the core preschool program. The full-day session (8am-3pm) includes the core preschool program, a rest time, and additional Learning Center time. All of our morning and full-day classes offer an early drop-off time as early as 7:30am at no additional charge. Our programs coincide with the K-12 ODCS school day schedule and school calendar. Students need to be three years old by August 1 and fully potty trained to attend ODCS. Please decide which program best suits your child. The ODCS preschool application can be found online.

Class Options:

• Tuesday and Thursday, half or full day (Not available for Pre-K students)
• Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, half or full day (3-5 year olds)
• Monday through Friday, half or full day (3-5 year olds)

Learning Centers:

Open Classroom Time involves Learning Centers, which represent ten curriculum areas, plus an opportunity for a self-serve snack. Learning centers provide a developmentally appropriate environment for independent and small group learning. Most of the activities are Child Centered, which means children engage independently or in a small group and participate at their level of skill and interest. We make it a habit to introduce concepts and activities thoroughly before encouraging the children to interact independently. Normally, no more than one activity requires close teacher supervision, which leaves at least one adult available to monitor the rest of the activity in the classroom. Read more

Zoo-phonics

| Print |

During the 2011-2012 school year, our preschool staff implemented a new phonics program, Zoo-phonics, which involves the whole child!

Daily, our preschoolers enthusiastically say their alphabet. As they look at flashcards, they say the letter sound, animal associated with the letter and wiggle their entire being as they act out the body motion. Never has learning the alphabet been so much fun!
