Several students participated in the Lorain County Fair
The ODCS staff and faculty are proud of several students who participated in the Lorain County Fair the last week of August.
Junior Bethaney O’Connor competed in several Senior Divisons. She placed 1st for Public Speaking, 1st for “Groom and Clean” for Horses, and scored highest for the Skillathon. She was also the 3rd Runner-Up for “Queen and Horsemen” which included competitions in horsemanship and showmanship, an interview, an essay and public speaking. Finally, Bethaney placed 3rd and 8th in show classes.
Junior Hannah Schumick received two 1st place awards for drawing entries she submitted in the Open Classes at the Lorain County Fair. The first entry was a self-portrait submitted in the Colored Pencil Class for ages 15-18. The second was an entry in the Portrait/Figure Class for ages 15-18. Hannah also won a Best of Show ribbon for the self-portrait entry in the Colored Pencil Class. Hannah has entered art at the fair for the past several years.
Sophomore Victoria Baus was awarded Grand Champion in Versatility, placed 1st in Equestrian Reigning, 5th in Contest Barrells, 6th in Western pleasure and 8th in English Equestrian.
Freshman Brennon O’Connor participated in the fair with a woodworking project by making a picket fence bench and received a 97% “A.”
Freshman Lydia Schumick is a member of 4-H Homegrowers and had entries in the Junior Fair Division in both cat and rabbit classes. She received a 1st place trophy in the Junior Division of the Cat Showmanship Class, and won a Runner-Up Award for Animal Project Interview Judging. Lydia and her cat received the Reserve Champion Award (2nd place) for overall best-cat. Lydia also received a 2nd place award for Rabbit Showmanship for ages 13-14 years. This is Lydia's third year for showing a cat, and her sixth year for showing a rabbit at the fair.
Middle School Student Alayna Johnston is also a 4-H member and participated with a team that placed 1st in the division to Clean and Groom a horse. She also made a poster about horses and received an Honorable mention.
ODCS 4th grader, Juliann Dodd, placed 2nd in the Crayon and Colored Pencil Division for ages 9-11.
