For years Mr. Russ’ 6th graders have visited hundreds of sick, sad, hurting, lost, and downtrodden people. Amazingly, they’ve accomplished this without ever taking one step off the ODCS campus. Mr. Russ does this by teaching the children to write encouraging letters and cards, which he delivers (sometimes in person) to the hurting individuals or families. Over the years his class has written cancer patients, gunshot victims, those who having lost loved ones, the hospitalized, the shut in, the broken, and anyone who could use a word of hope and encouragement. Imagine the joy someone experiences, having reached a low point in their life, when they receive 20 or 30 letters and cards from a bunch of kids they’ve never even met. Thanks, Mr. Russ, for teaching our students to make the love of Jesus real.
