Adam Newman
As you no doubt remember, several times each year students have opportunity to purchase long-stem carnations for classmates, friends, teachers, etc. On one of these days Adam Newman, class of 1997, arrived in first period USA history a few minutes late, after class had begun, and after the flowers for that day had been passed out. Adam had in his hands his books, his notebook, and a large bouquet of flowers. He found his seat, laid the flowers down on the floor and joined our discussion. At the end of class, just before the bell rang, he went around the room and presented a carnation to each young lady in the room. When I asked him why he had done this his response was straightforward and from the heart: "On days like this somebody always gets left out." This gratuitous act of kindness was one of the most thoughtful gestures I have ever seen. If you read this, Adam, my hat is off to you! |
