Yes, we have a couple cases of head lice and yes it takes a lot of time to do the clean up well. No, it is not the end of the world and it does not mean someone is dirty. As a matter of fact it is just the opposite, lice enjoy clean hair much more. If you want to use a commercial treatment you can but here is another way that does not involve pesticides on your child’s head.
First, check your child’s head carefully for nits. They are small, oval, and yellowish to grayish in color, usually attached to the hair shaft ¼ inch from the scalp and cannot be brushed off or blown off. There may also be very small bugs that are the size of a sesame seed and from a clear to light brown color. If live lice are present there will usually be red or bloody areas on the scalp from them feeding and your child scratching.
IF YOUR CHILD HAS HEAD LICE I MUST SEE THEM BEFORE THEY CAN RETURN TO THE CLASSROOM.
Please call me if you have any questions. My direct line is 326-2376. My hours are 8:00-2:30 (usually I am here later).

Chicken Pox (Varicella)
In children, the first sign of the disease is usually a rash. The rash generally begins on the scalp and then moves to the trunk and then the extremities. It is pruritic (itchy), and rapidly progresses from macules (a little blemish) to papules (elevated area on the skin, solid and circular) to vesicular lesions (small blisters). The highest concentration of the lesions will generally be on the trunk of the body. Lesions are usually 1 to 4 mm in diameter. |
