Several years ago National Geographic published an article describing the restoration of the Statue of Liberty in New York. While reading the article, a few sentences seemed to jump out. The author was describing how the workers stripped away the years of layered tar that had been used to protect the Statue’s integrity. The article described that when layer after layer had been removed, what remained were the original hammer marks of the artisans.
It struck me that this was a similar process to what takes place with parenting and teaching of children. The privilege to be able, with God’s help and guidance, to create original impressions on young lives holds with it the tremendous responsibility to establish a grand foundation. Yes, the future will provide accumulated layers of protection and insulation, but it is the original design that creates the framework for character and stability.
Many changes are taking place at ODCS…the rearranging of rooms; the restructuring of schools; the transitioning of teaching and administrative responsibilities…it is truly an exciting time in the life of the school! The destiny of organizations is always going through a decision process. Every generation is crucial; every generation is strategic. It is a privilege to sit and plan with the leaders of ODCS. We are off to a great start, but I must add that God will hold us accountable for how well we fulfill our responsibilities as we begin a new year.
My desire is to get to meet all of you in the near future through individual conversations and during our open houses. Feel free to make suggestions and comments. Everyone should sense an ownership of and pride for ODCS. God may call you to help with one of our sports teams or to become a prayer intercessor for the teachers and staff. We make an impact on our children’s lives as we become involved with them.
