4 - 6 Grade Summer Reading List

Students entering grades 4 - 6 are to read 300 pages this summer. Complete the reading log and return to school by September 5, 2008. You will not be taking Accelerated Reader quizzes on the books read this summer.

This is not an Accelerated Reader activity. Instead, choose 3 responses for each book you read. Use the reading log or a separate piece of paper to log your book title and responses. Be sure to include the title, author and number of pages for each book.

Reading Response List

  • Tell about what happened in the story.
  • Ask questions about things that confuse you or
  • that you wonder about.
  • Describe your feelings about the events.
  • Describe your feelings about characters.
  • Copy down a quote from a character and tell
  • why you think it’s meaningful.
  • Describe your favorite part.
  • Make a prediction about what will happen next.
  • Tell how you would react if you were one of the
  • characters in the story.
  • Describe a part that surprised you.
  • Write a letter to the author or a character.
  • Make a timeline of the events in the story.


Complete the reading log and return to school by September 5, 2008.
