The Junior High School years are an exciting time of transition from the 6th grade. At ODCS, junior high consists of grades 7 and 8. Each junior high student is assigned a personal locker, and these students move from class to class through an eight-period schedule.
- Trips - Annually in the early fall, a junior high
retreat is scheduled on a Thursday and Friday. This activity provides
an opportunity for our students to get acquainted with their classmates
and some ODCS staff members. A key component of the retreat is the
challenge given to know Christ and to grow in Him.
- Chapel - We
have a weekly chapel service here at ODCS. Occasionally, we meet as a
large group, grades 7-12, and other times the junior high students have
their own chapel program.
- Bible - The seventh grade Bible curriculum is a study in Proverbs, Wise Up. The eighth graders study Old Testament characters.
- Athletics
- Our junior high competes in interscholastic athletics as follows:
Girls - volleyball, cross country, basketball, and track; Boys -
soccer, cross country, basketball, and track.
- Music - Junior
high students continue their musical training as part of their core
curriculum. In each of the junior high years, our students will
participate in either choir or band.
- Curriculum - The core
curriculum consists of mathematics, language arts, social studies,
Bible, science, physical education, health, art, and music.
- Accelerated
Math - We offer three levels of mathematics in junior high. For the
seventh grade: Math 7, Math 8, and Pre-Algebra. For the eighth grade:
Math 8, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I.
- Tutoring - Our faculty is
willing to work with students after school. These times must be
arranged by the student with the teacher.
- Student Government - We have a junior high student government association. These students are elected by their peers.
