Read about Coach Lowe's vision for the football program in the January 29th, 2011 issue of the Morning Journal.

The School Board has approved a proposal from Dr. Burton to move forward on the planning for a football program at ODCS starting in the 2011-12 school year.

Football practices and games will start at the 7th and 8th grade level in 2011-12 and the program will build over time, culminating with a full varsity program several years down the road. A high school development squad is also in the planning stages for next year.

Adding football to our athletic offerings will greatly enhance all of our sports programs and is consistent with our vision of equipping and training our students spiritually, academically, artistically, athletically and in service and doing so with excellence.

A Football Committee has been formed and includes school administrators and faculty and two current experienced local football coaches with ties to ODCS. The mission of the committee is to carefully plan all that needs to be done to successfully launch the program. One of the initial actions of the committee will be to aide in the search for coaching candidates. We believe this is a key element to the success of the program.

In our planning, one of our goals is to allow our athletes who participate in our current fall sports (soccer, cross country and golf) to continue to participate in those sports and play football as well, if they choose to do so.

This is a very exciting time for ODCS as we continue to strive for and seek what God has planned for our school and our students. We have scheduled an informational meeting for parents and students on November 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ralph Neighbor Center. This will be a great time to have any questions you may have answered.

I look forward to a time in the not-too-distant future when some of the best of ODCS will be on display as the Patriot Marching Band entertains the fans at half-time of the first ever ODCS home football game on a Fall Friday evening under the lights. What a night that will be! Go Patriots!

Todd Wright
