BIBLE
God’s Word is the foundation for all truth and teaches us how we should
live. (II Timothy 3:16) Bible stories are told through the use of
pictures and a written text. Christ-like characteristics and moral
values are taught. Bible verses are explained by the teacher and
learned by students each week. The focus of the curriculum is God and
my world

READING/WRITING/SPELLING
This course includes direct instruction in phonemic awareness, daily
oral reading activities, silent reading times, invented spelling and
formal spelling instruction, and writing and handwriting exercises.

ENGLISH Grammar and writing are taught through a multi-sensory approach with students as active participants throughout the lesson. SOCIAL STUDIES This course includes family concepts, the geography of neighborhoods, our country’s historical background, and how we should behave as citizens. (Ephesians 4:32) My World – Adventures in Time and Place. McGraw-Hill School Division. 2001.
ART This course will provide a general background of basic art elements through the use of several art mediums. The students will learn to use their individual skills and creativity and gain new insight and appreciation in the world of art. It is our hope that students will desire to use their skills and talents to honor the Lord. The development of these skills will vary with the different age levels.
MUSIC Music for the elementary student encompasses a wide range of experiences, which will not only develop skills but also promote enjoyment of and appreciation for the various media of music. The first grade child will be exposed to many activities which will allow him to develop his singing voice, begin to read musical notation, become aware of basic rhythms, and to use his imagination in incorporating music with dramatization.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION Physical education for first graders will include activities designed to develop: basic motor skills foundational to successful participation in games/sports; an ability to cooperate with and encourage others in small and large group settings; and an acceptable level of physical fitness. These objectives will be achieved through a program of individual and group activities, relays, simple games, and conditioning exercises.
COMPUTER LAB First graders will have computer lab time every other week to learn about keyboarding, computers, and software applications. There will be hands-on projects that can be integrated with the regular classroom curriculum.
