Music for the lower elementary student encompasses a wide range of experiences that will not only develop skills, but also promote enjoyment of and appreciation for the various media of music. The first grade student will be exposed to many activities that will further develop the performance and knowledge of beat, melody, rudimentary notation, and rhythm. This will be accomplished through development of the singing voice, reading of musical notation and basic rhythm patterns, movement and body percussion, mechanics of music, and the use of the imagination to incorporate music with dramatization.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical education for first graders will include activities designed to develop basic motor skills foundational to successful participation in games/sports, an ability to cooperate with and encourage others in small and large group settings, and an acceptable level of physical fitness. These objectives will be achieved through a program of individual and group activities, relays, simple games, and conditioning exercises.

COMPUTER LAB
First graders will have computer lab time every other week to learn about keyboarding, computers, and software applications. There will be hands-on projects that can be integrated with the regular classroom curriculum.
