The ODCS choirs seek to provide many activities that will be both educational and fun for the students. It is important that all Choir and HS Select Ensemble members strive to be actively involved in all choral activities to both support and bring continued success to the music department.
The music department also encourages all parents of students participating in choral and instrumental activities to become actively involved in the Music Boosters Club. Elementary Choir
This unison/2pt. choir is comprised of students from grades three, four, five, and six who have a love of singing. The group rehearses weekly on after school on Mondays from 2:45 - 3:30 pm. The Elementary Choir performs in both the elementary Christmas and spring music programs as well as occasional chapels.
JH Concert Choir
The JH Choir is a concert choir made up of students from grades seven and eight. The JH Choir teaches correct vocal techniques, basic vocal music theory, the various styles of choral music, and group performance concepts. The JH Choir is an elective course with rehearsals daily Monday through Friday. The JH Choir performs in three concerts yearly, as well as in large-group competition with OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) and area music festival competition.
HS Concert Choir
The HS Choir is a concert choir designed to teach correct singing techniques, group performance concepts, vocal music theory, the various styles of choral music, and to appreciate music as an art form. The HS Choir is an elective course comprised of students from grades nine through twelve. The HS Choir rehearses during the school day on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The HS Concert Choir performs in three concerts yearly, as well as in large-group competition with OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) and large-group festival competition.
HS Vocal Ensemble
The ODCS Vocal Ensemble is an audition only group that holds auditions at the beginning of each school year. The HS Vocal Ensemble consists of students from grades nine through twelve who are current members of the HS Concert Choir. The Vocal Ensemble rehearses during the school day on Tuesday and Thursday. The HS Vocal Ensemble performs in four concerts yearly as well as various outreach performances throughout the school year. The HS Vocal Ensemble performs selections from musicals, vocal jazz, madrigals and chamber music, and slightly more challenging choral pieces. The HS Vocal Ensemble is a wonderful ministry opportunity that should be supported by those involved through prayer. |
